I know the disbursement is up to the school and their financial aid office, but what is the usual amount of waiting time occur in waiting for my student loan funds? I signed up for a loan on Aug. 20th. How long should i wait to expect it?

Im a member of us bank. Can i as a student going into college go and get a loan that i won’t have to start making payments until i graduate. I was wanting to ask for 5,000 dollars, is this to much for a student loan. I have a student loan that just went into default. I was just notified by a collection company called Windham Professionals, to enter in a program that reduces and "totally erases" debt over time. Is this conceivable or just a hoax? Will it be beneficial to me to participate? Has anyone ever participated or even heard of Windham Professionals?
